Google Maps for painters: let your work do the selling

Painting is visual. The painters who win on Google Maps are usually the ones who show their work the best.

The short answer

Pick "Painter" or "Painting contractor" based on who ranks in your area, list interior, exterior, cabinet, and commercial painting separately, and upload before-and-after photos of every job. Ask for reviews when the customer sees the finished work, and post updates about recent jobs in the neighborhoods you serve.

How customers choose a painter

Painting jobs are usually planned, not emergencies. Customers compare a few businesses, look closely at photos, and read reviews. That makes your photos and reviews even more important than for most trades.

Set up your listing

  • Main category: "Painter" or "Painting contractor." Check which one the top businesses in your area use.
  • Services: interior painting, exterior painting, cabinet painting, deck and fence staining, pressure washing, commercial painting, drywall repair. List each one.
  • Service area: the cities and parishes where you actually take jobs.

Before-and-after photos are your best tool

  • Take the same angle before and after, in good light
  • Show details: clean lines, trim, cabinets up close
  • Include exteriors that show the whole house
  • Get the homeowner's permission, and avoid showing house numbers
Post each finished job as an update.

A photo and a line like "Exterior repaint in Broussard, finished this week" shows you're active and working nearby.

Reviews

Ask every customer at the final walk-through, while they're looking at the finished work. Send the review link by text the same day. Reviews that mention the type of job and how clean the crew kept things help a lot.

Plan around the weather

Louisiana's heat, humidity, and rain affect exterior work. Use updates to remind customers when it's a good time to book exterior projects, and when interior work is a better fit.

Your painter checklist

  • Main category matches top painters in your area
  • Interior, exterior, and specialty services listed
  • Before-and-after photos from every job
  • Updates posted for finished jobs
  • Review link sent at the final walk-through
  • No keywords in your business name
