Attributes
Options on a listing that describe a business, for example online estimates or wheelchair access.
Citation
A mention of your business name, address and telephone number on another website.
Duplicate listing
A second Google listing for the same business at the same location.
GMB
The old name for a Google Business Profile: Google My Business.
Google Business Profile
The free business listing that appears on Google Search and Google Maps.
Google post
A short update with a photo that appears on your Google listing.
Justification
A line that Google adds under a listing to show why it matched the search.
Keyword stuffing
Adding services or cities to your business name to appear in more searches.
Local SEO
The work that helps a business appear in local search results and on Google Maps.
Manager
A person or company with permission to edit a Google listing without owning it.
Map Pack
The group of three businesses that Google shows on the map in a local search.
NAP
The name, address and telephone number of a business, as they appear online.
Organic results
The normal blue links below the map results on a Google page.
Owner
The Google account with full control of a listing, including the power to transfer it.
Performance report
The Google report that shows calls, direction requests, website clicks and the searches that showed your listing.
Primary category
The main label on your listing that tells Google your type of business.
Prominence
How well known a business is, online and offline.
Proximity
The distance from the person who searches to your business address.
Rank scan
A measurement of your position on Google Maps from many locations across an area.
Relevance
How well your listing matches what a person searched for.
Review gating
Asking only the customers that you expect to give a good review.
Service area business
A business that goes to its customers instead of serving them at an address.
Service list
The list of services on your Google listing, with a short description for each one.
Suspension
Google removes a listing from Maps, or removes its verification, because it breaks the guidelines.
Verification
The process that Google uses to confirm that a business is real.
