Google Maps for moving companies: earn trust fast

Customers are handing you everything they own. Your Google listing has to prove you're real and trustworthy before they call.

Updated September 2026

The short answer

Choose "Moving company" as your main category, show your licensing details in your description, use a real business address or a proper service area, and add photos of your trucks and crew. Steady, detailed reviews matter more for movers than almost any trade. Keep everything accurate, because moving companies face extra scrutiny from Google.

Why trust matters more for movers

Moving scams make customers nervous, and Google knows it. Moving companies tend to face extra scrutiny, and listings with suspicious details are more likely to be suspended. The good news: a real, well-kept listing stands out.

Set up your listing

  • Main category: Moving company. Add "Moving and storage service" or "Mover" only if they fit your business.
  • Services: local moves, long-distance moves, packing, storage, commercial moves, piano or specialty moves.
  • Address: if customers or trucks operate from a real facility, use it. Don't use virtual offices or mailboxes.
  • Description: mention your licensing. Interstate movers need a USDOT number from the FMCSA. Movers who handle moves within Louisiana should check the Louisiana Public Service Commission's requirements.

Photos that prove you're real

  • Your branded trucks, clearly showing your company name
  • Your crew in uniform, wrapping furniture and loading carefully
  • Your warehouse or storage facility, if you have one

Reviews: the deciding factor

Movers get chosen on reviews. Ask every customer as the move wraps up, and follow up with a text link that evening. Reply to every review, and handle complaints with a calm, specific response.

Never buy reviews or have friends post fake ones. Google removes them, and the FTC's rule on fake reviews allows penalties.

Your moving company checklist

  • Main category set to Moving company
  • Licensing details in your description
  • Real address or proper service area, no virtual offices
  • Photos of branded trucks and crew
