Two Google listings for one business: how to fix it

Duplicates divide your reviews and confuse Google. Here is how to find and remove them.

Updated September 2026

The short answer

Search your business name, your telephone number and your address on Google Maps. If you find two listings for one business, keep the listing with the most reviews. Claim the other listing, then ask Google to remove it as a duplicate. Do not delete a listing that has your reviews.

Why duplicates hurt

Google allows one listing for one business at one location. A duplicate causes three problems.

  • Your reviews divide. Twenty reviews on one listing and eight on another are weaker than 28 on one.
  • Google becomes uncertain. Two listings with different information reduce the trust in both.
  • Both listings can be suspended. Duplicates break the Google guidelines.

How to find them

  1. Search your business name on Google Maps. Look at the full list of results, not the first result only.
  2. Search your telephone number. This finds listings with a different name.
  3. Search your address. This finds listings from a previous business at your location, and listings with your address and another name.
  4. Search your old business name, your previous address and your previous telephone number.
  5. Look at the map area around your address, and read the business names.

Common causes: a listing that Google made from public data, a listing from a past employee, a listing from an old marketing company, and a listing that you made when you could not find the first one.

How to remove a duplicate

  1. Decide which listing to keep. Keep the listing with the most reviews, or the verified listing.
  2. Claim the duplicate. You need access before Google accepts a request from you.
  3. Report it as a duplicate. In the Business Profile, select the option to remove the listing, and select the duplicate reason. Google can also merge the two listings.
  4. Wait. Google takes days, and sometimes weeks.
  5. Check the reviews. If Google merges the listings, the reviews usually move to the listing that stays. If Google only removes one, the reviews on that listing are lost. This is the reason to keep the listing with the reviews.

Two things not to do

  • Do not mark a duplicate as permanently closed when it has your address. A closed listing at your address can damage the listing that you keep.
  • Do not delete the listing with the reviews. Reviews do not always move.

If you cannot get access to the duplicate, read how to request ownership of a listing.

How to prevent duplicates

  • Use one Google account that the business owns.
  • Add helpers as managers, never as owners.
  • Search for an existing listing before you make a new one.
  • After a move or a name change, correct the listing that exists. Do not make a new one.

Common questions

Can I have two listings at one address?

Only if you operate two different businesses, each with its own name, its own telephone number and its own category. Two listings for one business break the rules.

Do my reviews move when Google merges listings?

Usually yes, but not always. Keep the listing with the most reviews to reduce the risk.

Is a listing for each city acceptable?

No. One business gets one listing, unless you have a second real location with staff during your hours.
